Aligning Dreaming Planning Organizing Serving Celebrating Learning Ministry Communicorps
Planning
Communications planning focuses on being innovative. When we think of the word "innovation," what comes to mind is usually a toaster or some kind of scientific breakthrough. In fact, innovation is defined as the act of introducing something new. Within a church, innovation can be used to provide a fresh and interesting invitation to ministry.

Innovation is simply presenting an existing idea or element in a new way. It can mean seeing something through different eyes--experiencing something again for the first time. Innovation is about being original and inviting.

Innovation can help us communicate more effectively. It can renew interest and spark new involvement. By presenting ministry in an original way, we can increase its exposure--more people will pay it attention if it sounds like something new that they have not seen or heard before. Innovation also helps us turn complex ideas into concepts that are readily understandable.

How to plan like a pro:

Write it down. You'll never remember everything if you don't take good notes.

Take stock. Know the resources you have to work with--people, time, finances, ideas and assets.

Check the clock. Deadlines have a way of sneaking up on you. Fill every moment with purposeful activity. Don't waste time--especially early on.

Delegate. Share the responsibility with others. Individuals don't win ballgames--teams do.

Communicate well. Organize your thoughts and share them with all those involved in the project. They'll appreciate a "bird's eye view" of the plan.

Be open to change. Sometimes a turn leads you down the wrong road. It's never too late to stop and ask for directions.
